Chumphon Advances Soft Power Strategy Through Diving, Coffee, and Durian

Chumphon is stepping up efforts to promote its soft power through a strategic collaboration between the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Chumphon Office and the Chumphon Public Relations Office. The initiative highlights three of the province’s signature strengths—diving, coffee, and durian—as key drivers to elevate its image among both domestic and international travelers.

Known as the “Gateway to the South,” Chumphon boasts pristine marine resources and is gaining recognition as a premier diving destination. Its clear waters, vibrant coral reefs, and diverse marine life offer year-round experiences suitable for both beginners and professional divers. Authorities aim to position Chumphon as a must-visit spot for eco-conscious tourism.

In addition to its underwater appeal, Chumphon is also home to high-quality coffee plantations. Locally grown beans, cultivated in fertile soil and favorable climate conditions, are increasingly being recognized for their unique aroma and flavor. Efforts are underway to promote coffee tourism, allowing visitors to experience the journey from farm to cup.
Durian, often referred to as the “king of fruits,” represents another pillar of Chumphon’s soft power. The province produces premium-grade durian, particularly the renowned Monthong variety, which is highly sought after in both domestic and export markets.

Through integrated marketing campaigns and storytelling, local authorities seek to connect these elements into a cohesive identity. By leveraging its natural and agricultural assets, Chumphon is positioning itself as a distinctive destination that blends adventure, culture, and gastronomy.
