Travel Calendar (March) – Worship and bathing ceremony of Phra That Doi Tung, Chiang Rai Province

        ​​Thais and foreigners alike are encouraged to visit the country’s many cultural sites and tourist attractions to gain a better understanding of the region’s rich history and unique traditions.

        For instance, on 5-6 March 2023, the “2005 Year Continuing, Hak Peng Long Fah, Paying Homage to Phra That Doi Tung” worship and bathing ceremony was held at Phra That Doi Tung, Wat Noi Doi Tung, and Wat Sala Choeng Doi in the Huai Khrai Subdistrict of Mae Sai District in the province of Chiang Rai.

        The main activity on 5 March is a pilgrimage known as “Tiao (travel) up the mountain, Tuey Hoi Kruba, paying homage to Phra That Doi Tung” at Wat Sala Choeng Doi. Other activities include offering holy nectar ceremony at Wat Noi Doi Tung, performing a “prospering” ceremony, a training ceremony, preaching “nectar prayers” at the temple Noi Doi Tung, and watching the light and sound show at Wat Phra That Doi Tung. 

        On 6 March, the main events are the alms-giving ceremony at Wat Noi Doi Tung, the Doi Tung Phra That Doi Tung worship ceremony at the Doi Tung Phra That Doi Tung courtyard, the Rattana Sattanang procession to worship Phra That Doi Tung. Others are the Royal Lanna Destiny Ceremony, the ceremony Paying Homage to Phra That Doi Tung, and pouring water on royally bestowed blankets on Phra That.
