Creative Tourism: Old Tin Mine in Phang Nga
Ban Ta Din Daeng, in Lum Kaen Subdistrict, Tai Mueang District in Phang Nga, is a popular ecotourism community for people who are eager to learn about their way of life and follow it for a while. The highlight of its history is that one hundred years ago, it was a tin mine and an important mineral market community. What has been left behind is the way of life and well-preserved mining tools. There is a remembrance of a “billion-baht mine,” a memory of tin evidenced by an ancient, 100-year-old ore track and its structure.
The villagers used a "lieng," which is like a wok made of wood, to separate the ore from the rocks and sand, and then it would be sold back to the mine, which was a good way to generate income.
This is an important part of the community’s heritage of local wisdom, and because of this, the community has been promoting it as a tourist activity – a way to go back in time by exploring the ore track, learning the history of the prosperity of mine industries in Phang-nga, and reviving the old way of separating the ore. This is a unique and interesting experience that visitors will get to go through themselves.
