The King of Salted Fish Pak Nam Tak Bai GI Kulao Tak Bai Fish

As one of the Thai delicacies chosen for the table at the banquet APEC leaders’ dinner,

Tak Bai’s salted kulao fish caused a major sensation when Thailand hosted the APEC Leaders’ Meeting in November 2022. Most notably, Tak Bai’s salted kulao fish has earned a reputation as the king of salted fish and has been recognized as a GI product, which is a good indicator item because it has special qualities that set it apart from similar products made from other sources and increase its value.

The specialty of Tak Bai’s salted kulao fish is not too salty taste, fluffy texture, and a unique aroma of salted fish, which is produced from fresh kulao fish according to the inherited process in Tak Bai District, Narathiwat Province. Since more than a century ago, fresh kulao fish from the sea around the mouth of the Tak Bai River, which is abundant, has been used as a source of food for kulao fish from other sources until it became well-liked in the locality, in the provinces, and in neighboring countries. It is a famous souvenir of the South and Narathiwat. The Tak Bai people have a long-held secret that has been passed down, which involves meticulousness in every step of the manufacturing process and the careful selection of raw materials. This produces well-known, high-quality products. Nowadays, it is more convenient to order online if you don’t have time to go to Tak Bai. Finding time to visit Tak Bai and sampling the salted Ku Lao fish will allow you to determine whether or not the product tastes as good as it is said to before traveling to the production location.
