“DBD Registered” Electronic Commerce Registration Mark

“DBD Registered” Electronic Commerce Registration Mark

     In the new era of technology, communication has developed so much that it is no longer a far-fetched notion that businesses can buy and sell products online. e-Commerce has constantly grown, thanks to changes in consumer behavior.

Consequently, a commercial undertaking that requires the registration of electronic commerce consists of the following:

  1. Trading of goods or services using electronic media via the Internet;
  2. Internet service provider (ISP);
  3. Providing space for the server computer (web hosting);
  4. e-Marketplace.

     However, building customer trust is important in the online world. The “DBD Registered” mark is an electronic commercial registration certification that the Department of Business Development makes available to owners of e-commerce websites, to enable individuals and legal entities to verify their identity and commercial registration.

     An e-commerce website with the “DBD Registered” mark is considered more reliable than websites without the mark. To obtain the DBD Registered mark, businesses have to submit various documents to request registration to confirm that the applicant exists as the owner of the website. Purchasing products from websites with the DBD Registered mark shows customers confidence that they will not be exploited or cheated, or will not receive products, because the seller exists in a registration system.

     Therefore, commercial registration is an essential feature that helps customers to be able to verify the identity of the website owner. This will help to reassure customers when choosing a service.

     Businesses wishing to apply for a certification mark must present evidence of the business of electronic commerce, by submitting the following documents:

1.1 An individual

  • Copy of identification card;
  • Document showing that the online store has been prepared or the online name used in the business of electronic commerce (URL) or copy of commercial registration certificate.

1.2 Legal entity

  • Certificate of legal entity or copy of commercial registration certificate or the document showing that the online store has been prepared or the online name used in the business of electronic commerce (URL).

1.3 Other cases

  • Membership documents, trade associations, chambers of commerce, etc.

     The certification mark is valid for five years from the date the Department approves the use of the mark, and it reserves the right to cancel the DBD Registered mark without prior notice if it is discovered that the online shop that received the mark has committed any action that does not comply with the terms and conditions.

     Copying the DBD Registered sign is prohibited, and it may not be displayed on other online stores or homepages that do not match the online stores registered with the Department of Business Development.
