The Ministry of Culture paves the way to prevent violence through media – tackling online threats

Nowadays, technology plays a significant role in the lives of people worldwide, increasing convenience in everyday life. However, it can also pose an online threat that causes impacts and potential harm, especially amongst children and young people.

The Ministry of Culture has policies to promote the production and development of safe and creative media, aiming to instill values and promote good culture in society. It also involves the Cultural Surveillance Network, the Provincial Committee for Safe and Creative Media, and the Safe and Creative Media Development Fund to drive its operation. Besides, it collaborates with the Association of Radio and Media for Children and Youth to lay out directions in carrying out missions related to preventing violence through media, reducing societal violence issues. This allows children, youth, citizens, and society at large to be more aware and understanding of the dangers and violence issues in society related to media use.

Creating a defense mechanism for children and youth to understand more about choosing media and media analysis is also of prime importance. This will be expanded and amplified through various project activities, supporting research in the education sector, or producing quality media for society, both centrally and regionally.

Furthermore, it includes a hands-on training program to develop a new generation of youth, reinforcing virtuous families at the regional level (Seed Thailand), emphasizing the development of a cultural surveillance network. Also, it imparts knowledge to be updated on new threats in the 21st century and understand media, online scams, digital-age communication, including fake news for dealing with online harassment (Cyber Bully), and knowledge about the law to protect personal data, and even the practice of creative media production and building a network of youth creatively and safely in an online society.
