Thatchapoom Academic Institute, the “dual knowledge” institute of the Kingdom of Thailand, to expand Thai wisdom to the world

     Thatchapoom Academic Institute is a unit under the Program Management Unit on Area-Based Development (PMU A), established to act as a knowledge institute. It is responsible for processing and synthesizing knowledge from research, innovation, and wisdom from the area. Its responsibilities cover all dimensions of the area development work, namely the elimination of poverty and creation of social opportunities in the area of economy, foundations from the local resource capital development, cultural capital development in the area of urban development to diversify the prosperity center, and the strengthening of the local and community.

     PMU A collaborated with mechanisms, partners, and higher education institutions in the area to synthesize knowledge to develop a new set of knowledge for creating new opportunities and expanding the results for sustainable development by conducting the development process to create a knowledge infrastructure at the area level, as well as creating a body of knowledge that can be exported internationally and pushed as policy proposals to contribute to the development of areas and reduce the gaps resulting from inequality.

     The operation of Thatchapoom Academic Institute for area development is in line with the 20-Year National Strategy on Social Development and the framework of the 13th National Economic and Social Development Plan. The results of the function of Witthayu Thatchapoom for area development are listed below:

• Developing spatial researchers;
• Developing spatial research management systems in universities;
• Enhancing theoretical knowledge;
• Synthesizing knowledge leading to policy;
• Establishing a database of important information for area development;
• Driving knowledge expansion;
• Establishing an academic network between academic disciplines and international institutions;
• Synthesizing new research challenges.

     Initially, the mission of Thatchapoom Academic Institute for Area Development covers five dimensions that have a high impact on the development of the country through five educational institutions: the Institute of Knowledge for Cultural Capital Management, the Institute of Knowledge for Community Economic Development, the Institute of Knowledge for Social Opportunity, the Institute of Knowledge for Urban Development, and the Institute of Knowledge for Local Empowerment.
