Revolutionizing Universities: Focusing on 5 Issues to Support Higher Education Institutions and Drive BCG to a Global Level

The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation has set out to revolutionize universities by focusing on 5 key issues to support higher education institutions and drive the Bio-Circular-Green Economy (BCG) to the top global level. The objective is to apply research and innovation outputs to the industrial sector, produce advanced human resources, and challenge higher education planning to produce and develop the country's human resources during 2023-2027.

At the meeting of the University Transformation Committee (Special Session), significant policy-related issues were raised for the promotion and support of various higher education institution groups for the fiscal year 2024, with a top-down approach to the following 5 issues:

  1. Promoting Thai higher education institutions to gain accreditation from ABET and ethical standards
  2. Driving BCG using the mechanism of Thai higher education institutions to a top global level
  3. Promoting the use of research and innovation outputs for the industrial sector
  4. Promoting the creative economy to develop local areas for higher education institutions
  5.  Supporting activities and developing excellence and advanced human resource production

Management will be carried out through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, and the Higher Education Institutions. The Higher Education Institutions are required to manage the system to support the university transformation plan, elevating university transformation to operational plans, and extending successful operational outcomes to the university's regular operational plans. Meanwhile, the Ministry will support the budget as a central unit that connects to various funding agencies and promotes support measures according to the Ministry's 2021 rule on organizing groups of higher education institutions.

The meeting also considered approaches for developing long-term action plans, obtaining opinions and suggestions for preparing draft long-term action plans (fiscal year 2024 - 2028) onwards.
