The project of OBEC Moral School: Elevating morality and ethics for students, teachers, and education personnel

     Thailand places great importance on morality, and the ethics of schools are a crucial component. The Office of the Basic Education Commission, or OBEC, initiated the project of OBEC Moral School to carry on the royal aspirations of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX), in accordance with the wishes of His Majesty the King (Rama X), in keeping with the national strategy framework on morality.

     OBEC is responsible for providing education for most of the country's youth, to ensure that they are quality citizens, with knowledge, abilities, goodness, excellence, and happiness, by establishing a foundation for students in four areas, as follows:

  1. Having right attitudes toward the country;
  2. Having a stable foundation of life, including morality;
  3. Having a job and a career;
  4. Being good citizens.

The aim is to instill five principles of morals in school administrators, teachers, students, and educational personnel, as follows:

  1.  Sufficiency;
  2. Gratitude;
  3. Honesty and integrity;
  4. Responsibility;
  5. Moral ideology.

     The qualitative goals are to make all school administrators, teachers, and students aware, improve general understanding, and help them think logically, with a natural sense of the value of moral goodness, creating a sense of responsibility for doing good deeds. And together, they will create a network of community organizations of moral excellence by seeking cooperation from organizations and institutions that work in the field of clear and sustainable moral practices.

     As for the guidelines for driving the project of OBEC Moral School, there are 10 topics specified  in the project that schools and educational districts use as guidelines for organizing activities to develop schools of morality:

  1. Organize morality camps for youth;
  2. Develop projects to promote moral values;
  3. Produce innovation and creativity for good people;
  4. Create networks and encourage participation in moral schools (OBEC);
  5. Organize activities for 10,000 teachers, virtuous people;
  6. Organize activities to return morality to the classroom;
  7. Organize family activities to promote morality;
  8. Organize activities for “A good school must have a firm foundation”;
  9. Supervise, monitor, and follow up;
  10. Produce short films on OBEC morality.
