The drive of "Thatchawit" towards enhancing Thailand's science and technology capabilities

The advancement of research and development in science and technology, marked by significant leaps and bounds, is key to the development of a country in terms of economics, society, and the environment. This calls for urgent action, given the increasing competition in today's world.

The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation has devised a strategy to drive science and technology. This strategy led to the establishment of the Thailand Academy of Sciences (TAS), also known as "Thatchawit", aiming to serve as a hub for connecting networks of researchers and scientists, national research institutes, and universities. The initiative aims to foster collaboration and leverage existing scientific and technological infrastructure, in order to build a strong scientific base for the country, and to enhance the development of Thai people for increasing the country's competitive ability on the global stage.

"Thatchawit" plays three critical roles for the state, society, and civil society, namely:

  1. A responsive role to address issues and strategic needs promptly,
  2. A proactive role to alert society, and
  3. A predictive role to guide society, which requires cutting-edge knowledge to forecast future scenarios.

"Thatchawit" carries out its mission in three areas, namely:

  1. Acting as a think tank of scientists, which brings together talented individuals both inside and outside the Ministry to collectively address the country's critical issues,
  2. Encouraging researchers nationwide to collaborate on impactful projects (Frontier Science Alliances), and
  3. Developing high-potential human resources to accommodate global changes (Future Graduates Platform).

"Thatchawit" aims to be the hub of Thai science and technology, to collect and creatively use with the primary goal of making Thailand a developed country by 2580, driven by all branches of sciences and arts.
