As weather is an important factor in air travel, the Thai Meteorological Department provides aviation meteorological information services to Aeronautical Radio of Thailand for use in traffic control by air, allowing aircraft to take off and land safely in compliance with ICAO regulations and international standards.
For example, airport weather forecasts (TAF), SIGMET Information & Aerodrome Warning, as well as advice that is useful for pilots' decision-making and to participate in the search and rescue of aircraft in an accident.
The Transport Meteorological Division prepares tools and systems as follows:
1. To install Automatic Weather Observation System (AWOS) Low Level Wind Shear Alert System (LLWAS)
2. Lightning Detection System (LDS)
3. Doppler Weather Radar
4. Satellite Meteorological Data Receiving System (MTSAT NOAA)
5. Aeronautical Fixed Telecommunication Network:AFTN and Telecom System
