Winter in Northern Thailand
The weather is typically cool from the end of October to early December. The north and northeast are generally cold; the upper part of the region has some cold days; and the central and eastern regions have many cold days. The upper part of the region has a 10-20 percent chance of rainfall. Sometimes there may be strong gusts on certain days because China's high pressure radiates down to cover the northern and northeastern regions periodically, but it will be weak to medium strength, combined with the northeastern monsoon covering Thailand.
Afterward, until the end of January, it will be colder in northern Thailand, and northeastern regions will have cold weather in general. The peak of Doi Yod Phu, including the rest of the mountain range, will be cold and frosty. In some parts of the central and eastern regions, there will be cold weather in general. Because of the high pressure from China, the cool temperatures in the upper part of the region will continue to spread over Thailand periodically. It will continue to mix with the northeast monsoon, which will cover Thailand and occasionally lead to strong forces.
In early and mid-February, the weather will be variable and start to warm up, and during the day, there will be hot weather and heavy fog in many areas. However, in the mornings in the northern and northeastern regions, there will still be cold air due to the high pressure from China.
The expected typical northern weather will be cold from late October to November, especially in the upper part, with fog in the morning. Thunderstorms are possible in 10-20 percent of the area, and gusty winds are likely on some days.
From December to the end of January, the weather will continue to get colder. As a result, there will be colder weather in general, and Doi Yod Phu and the rest of the mountain range will sometimes be very cold and frosty.
In early and mid-February, the weather is variable and starts to warm up and get some rain. However, on some days, there will be a lot of fog; it will still be cold in the morning and hot in the afternoon in many areas during the day.
Cautions
1. In December and January, Doi Yod Phu and neighboring peaks are often frosty and foggy in many areas, so you should be aware of accidents involving vehicles.
2. During January and February, west winds may move from Myanmar through upper Thailand, causing thunderstorms, strong winds, and hail in some areas.
