Checking Readiness for Climate Change and Thailand's Alerts to Prevent Threats to Life and Property

Natural variability and climate change.

Nowadays, abnormal weather and natural disasters are becoming more frequent and severe with a huge impact on the socio-economic sector of the country. Due to this nature, research clearly indicates that it is related to natural variability and climate change or human activities, resulting in the greenhouse effect and global warming. 

In Thailand, there are 8 types of natural disasters that occurred from the past to the present, namely tropical cyclones, earthquakes, floods, summer storms, landslides, storm surges, wildfires and droughts, all of which are likely to intensify in the future.

The Meteorological Department established a climate center to monitor the weather conditions, variations and changes that are important variables affecting the environment and well-being of humans, animals and other living beings.

The Climate Center's action forecasts weather using statistical data and the Climate Predictability Tool (CPT) developed by the International Research Institute for Climate and Society, The Earth Institute of Columbia University (IRI), in conjunction withGlobal Climate Model data, which is based on sea temperature forecasts, mainly comparing historical data by measuring and precipitation data of Thailand from 1976 to the present to analyze and report weather characteristics.

However, the Climate Center will be the nation's central and data source for climate information, which will provide weekly, monthly, yearly, and long-term weather summaries analyzing the output from meteorological compound models and climate data and reports within the time frame specified to disseminate climate information to the public and relevant agencies to have useful information for planning and surveillance to prevent loss of life and property.
