Kamphaeng Phet Hospital moves toward Smart Hospital by developing the “IPD Paperless KPHIS” program to decrease paper consumption and minimize errors in the workplace

Kamphaeng Phet Hospital is advancing toward becoming a “Smart Hospital” by utilizing technology to enhance work efficiency. Since 2018, the hospital has been implementing the Smart Hospital policy of the Ministry of Public Health, which aims to improve work efficiency through technology. The hospital has developed the "IPD Paperless KPHIS" program to assist in patient record-keeping and reduce the use of paper, storage space, and the risk of errors from work. The program is designed to be user-friendly, with high-security systems that are similar to the old system but with added digital functions, such as setting medication formulas, recording nursing information, coordinating and forwarding information on patient medication, alerting for drug allergies and commonly used medications, and displaying vital signs from monitoring devices and heart function in graphs. The program calculates various medical expenses and provides notifications. In addition, it links with laboratory result displays, X-rays, and electrocardiograms, allows for quick retrieval of medical history and test results, and automatically generates complete medical records for billing purposes. The program is designed for multiple users to work with it simultaneously, with each system function being a template of convenience and speed.

The results of implementing the "IPD Paperless KPHIS" system in all hospital departments show that it reduced paperwork by 60-70%. Patients were safer thanks to the notification system, which reduced risks by 80%. Patients received medication faster, and nurses had more time to care for them. System users were highly satisfied at 95%. There was also a reduction in document storage space and a saving of over 1.5 million baht per year from reduced use of copy paper.
