Tracking the progress of the Model Organic Zero Waste Village Project and promoting the use of organic substances for the organic rice producers group in Trang

The community Zero Waste project began in 2009 to promote and encourage collaboration and public participation, along with local administrative organizations in the full-cycle waste management process.

The “Zero Waste” or “Zero Residue Management” concept implies waste management based on the 3Rs principle, which comprises Reduce (reducing waste volume), Reuse, and Recycle, alongside promoting communities to manage waste from its source. The process involves mid-way management through the waste management service system of local administrative organizations and the endpoint management which is disposal according to scientific principles.

In this regard, the Trang Land Development Station has promoted the collection of soil samples, the use of soil improvers, biotechnology products, the production of organic fertilizers, biological fermentation, and ploughing straw back into the soil. These initiatives are for use in organic rice fields under the internal control system (ICS) of organic standards (continuous group) in 2023 in Na Yong Nuea subdistrict, Na Yong district, Trang province.

Furthermore, the progress of the Model Organic Zero Waste Village project in Na Muen Si subdistrict, Na Yong district, Trang province has been monitored. The aim of this project is to reduce waste to zero or minimal. The project also propels the use of organic substances and encourages farmers to use agricultural waste and organic waste to produce compost and bio-fermentation. This helps to reduce production costs, protect the environment, and recycle for benefits, following the principles of BCG.

The Trang Land Development Station recognizes the significance of the waste issue and strives to continuously create awareness and instill a sense of waste management among the public. This encourages participation in reducing and sorting waste for reuse at the individual, household, community, and organizational level. The ultimate goal is to push for the establishment of a Model Organic Zero Waste Village.
