Pushing the electric vehicle Industry and the Euro 6 standard toward a low-carbon society

       According to a World Health Organization (WHO) study, pollution and toxic dust from internal combustion engine exhaust fumes is one of the major contributors to carbon monoxide and PM 2.5, two major elements causing air pollution, which have accumulated for many years, affecting people's health around the world.

       As a result, producing and promoting the use of low-emission vehicles, such as electric vehicles (EV) and cars with Euro 5-6 engines, can help reduce pollution from vehicles in the long run. Higher Euro standards indicate that the amount of toxic substances, including PM 2.5, from exhaust pipes will be reduced, which Thailand is developing and driving the country towards a low-carbon and environmentally friendly society economy.

       The Ministry of Industry has a policy to encourage the automotive industry to make electric vehicles, while pushing for vehicles with Euro 6 emission standards to be available sooner in order to increase export levels and production in accordance with trading partner standards. Most of the world’s leading countries, including the European Union, Australia, Japan, and China, have already adopted the Euro 6 standard to improve people’s health, reduce morbidity, transition to a low-carbon society, and push Thailand to achieve its goal of helping to reduce global warming. This is consistent with the Thai economy being driven by the new BCG Model, which focuses on upgrading production potential to international standards while remaining environmentally friendly.

       Driving production standards and importing cars that meet the Euro 6 standard in order to keep up with changes in the global market is a strategy that benefits the Thai automotive industry in many ways. Following government support policies that many countries focus on clean technology and pollution reduction to drive investment in the development of electric vehicles and modern vehicles with advanced technology, reducing emissions and being environmentally friendly, the market for electric cars and Euro 6 standard cars has continued to grow in a better direction.

       Thailand has a policy to attract leading companies in world-class automobile production to continuously invest in technology development as the world’s important production base for automotive and parts or the region’s center. It is expected that, starting now, the electric vehicle manufacturing industry will be able to add at least 200,000 million baht to the GDP and create a demand for approximately 30,000 modern automotive workers per year by 2030.
