The Department of Foreign Trade is stepping forward in applying digital innovation to enhance its service system, particularly the service of issuing Certificates of Origin (C/O). These certificates allow businesses to apply for tax deductions or exemptions at the destination country, in accordance with the Free Trade Agreements (FTA) that Thailand participates in.
Every year, more than a million businesses apply for a C/O. In 2565 BE (2022 AD), the value of exports exceeded 3.7 trillion baht. Therefore, implementing an AI-based C/O service system, combined with Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology for Risk-based Management on Profile, helps to reduce errors and increases reliability in issuing C/O, while also reducing the time officers spend checking documents.
Additionally, the Department of Foreign Trade has a project to enhance and elevate the quality of foreign trade services using digital innovation. This includes improving the standard of export services, developing the integration of infrastructure systems for managing antidumping information according to AD/CVD/SG measures, improving the tax benefit utilization system under Thailand's FTAs, improving the information security management system to support the expansion of ISO/IEC 27001 certification, and developing a central data warehouse system that can manage and support continuous service delivery.
