The criteria, procedures for application, and consideration for permission to import firearms, ammunition, explosives, fireworks, and firearm simulants into Thailand are stipulated under the 1947 Firearms, Ammunition, Explosives, Fireworks, and Imitation Firearms Act. The importer must present a letter from the Firearms Registrar to the Director-General of the Customs Department along with the import permit from the relevant agency. These documents should be submitted to the Customs Department at the point of import.
Procedures for considering the importation of firearms, ammunition, explosives, fireworks, and firearm simulants are as follows:
- Passengers carrying firearms and ammunition personally must surrender these items to the Customs Department. The customs officer will issue a three-part firearm receipt, with one part given to the importer as evidence.
- The importer presents the permit documents, which allow the ordering or importing of firearms and ammunition, along with other related documents to perform customs procedures for the importation of firearms and ammunition into the kingdom. These documents are submitted to the Customs Department at the point of import, along with the payment of customs duties and other fees. The importer must submit the import goods declaration data to the Customs Department's computer system.
- Officials verify the documents, permits, and other related documents for consideration of permission for ground transportation.
- Officials stamp and sign for permission to transport on land in the import permit and inspect and release the firearms from the customs area.
