“Big Rock Project” driving the BCG food economy

      The BCG model is the government's economic driving policy that focuses on sustainable economic growth, income distribution, and opportunity distribution, while taking into account the sustainability of the environment and resources, developing the economy at the same time in three areas: the biological economy, circular economy, and green economy. 

      The food industry creates immense economic value for the country's GDP. It is expected that upgrading the food industry with the BCG model will be able to increase the production potential of food production, increasing the share of GDP to 5%, through tools. The three main areas include the following:

1. Application of innovation to upgrade the country's food industry with appropriate technology and management;

2. Development and improvement of regulations related to food, and keeping up with progress in the present and future food industry;

3. Major infrastructure development to upgrade the country's food industry, so that Thai food entrepreneurs can compete in the global market.

      The development of guidelines for driving the BCG food economy has gathered ideas from all sectors, resulting in a conclusion on the approaches, one of which consists of the development of the "Big Rock Project," which is a plan to drive national reform activities that will result in significant changes for the people. 

Big Rock Project to drive the BCG food economy

1. Functional food industry development projects or integrated functional ingredient products (development of innovation for new products, product standard test analysis, and enlarging production to industrial scale);

2. Establishing a central CRO for testing functional food, medical food, and functional ingredients;

3. Project to upgrade street food to meet standards for safety, hygiene, and “identity.”

4. Establishing a one-stop service, setting up a system to support a one-stop service point, and assisting businesses involved in local food with issues such as standards, design, branding, and promoting the creative economy.
