Agricultural BCG Model driving mechanism

       Thailand is at heart an agricultural country. The adoption of the BCG model will help drive Thailand’s agriculture toward sustainable development with the concept of bringing science, technology, and innovation to enhance competitiveness, increase efficiency in the production process, reduce costs, and increase product quality and safety. There are three phases of the agricultural BCG Model driving mechanism, discussed below, which will raise Thailand’s competitive level and bring in investment from various countries.

Phase 1 (first year)
       To emphasize solving problems in the agricultural sector by primarily focusing on plants and animals in the main economic sectors affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. Other issues include oversupply management, reduction of PM 2.5 and pollution caused by agricultural activities, along with developing abilities and farmers’ knowledge in technology, innovation, especially knowing the market demand and preparing production to meet the public’s needs, leading to farmers who have knowledge about farming with new technology, or “smart farmers,” who also know how to manage food loss throughout the supply chain, and who know ways to reduce and utilize waste in the production process. All of these improvements will enable the agricultural sector to continue to prosper. 

Phase 2 (2-5 years)
       To emphasize elevating farmers’ productivity to a system of good production standards by focusing on plants, animals, main economies, and new species of plants, such as herbs, plus insects, while pushing the production of agricultural products to meet international standards and encourage creation and development of start-ups, as well as accelerating the development of quality production factors to be more varied and suitable for the production of Thai agricultural products. 

Phase 3 (5+ years)
       To emphasize further development that will add value to agricultural products and push Thailand to be a source of production and exporter of knowledge and technology, as well as production factors that manufacturers in the ASEAN region would want to adopt. Currently, as Thai society is stepping into an aging society, it is necessary to use agricultural machinery to replace labor.
