Seven exciting destinations to visit this rainy season - Rafting along Wa River, Nan

Originating from the same mountain range as the Nan River, the journey down the Wa River is an experience you wouldn't want to miss. It's divided into three exciting sections for thrill-seekers to conquer. The uppermost section, from the village of Ban Span to Ban Sop Mang, lies within the Khun Nan National Park. It offers a challenging level of 3-5 in terms of difficulty.

Next, we come to the middle section, which stretches from Ban Sop Mang, in Bo Kluea district, to Ban Nam Wa in Mae Charim district. Here too, rafters will encounter the same difficulty levels of 3-5, making for a hair-raising adventure. The lower section, ideal for a relaxing rafting trip, is located within the Mae Charim National Park.

Now, let's talk about the route. The middle section of the Wa River is the endpoint for the new Thai rafting route, an adrenaline-pumping trip spanning over 80 kilometers and cutting across three districts in Nan Province. With rapids ranging from level 1 to 5 according to international standards, you'll need three days and two nights to conquer the river

Imagine being immersed in the lush wilderness, battling through level 5 rapids requiring unity, skill, and the expertise of your boat captain. Imagine the thrill of navigating safely, taking in the incredible natural beauty on both sides of the river, dotted with waterfalls, exotic flora, and bizarre rock formations. And at the end of the day, relaxing in a camp on the natural beaches along the Wa River, basking in the tranquil ambiance.

The best time to raft is from June to July, September to January. August is typically off-season. To get there from Bangkok, start at the Mo Chit Bus Terminal and hop on an air-conditioned coach to Nan, a journey of about 10 hours. The rafting journey begins at Sop Mang village, Bo Kluea district, Nan province. From Nan, you'll pass through Santi Suk and Bo Kluea districts to reach Ban Sop Mang. The drive should take approximately 3 to 3.5 hours.
