Escape PM 2.5 dust: Tourist Destinations in Thailand

Recently, Thailand has been facing increasing air pollution problems every year, especially PM 2.5 dust in the capital and northern regions, to the point where the government has had to declare it an item on the national agenda. PM 2.5 dust is tiny particulate matter with a diameter not exceeding 2.5 micrometers, or 1/25 of the diameter of a human hair. If there is a high concentration of PM 2.5 dust, it can resemble smog but with poisonous heavy metals and carcinogens.

PM 2.5 dust can spread and penetrate the respiratory system and bloodstream, particularly affecting high-risk groups such as young children, pregnant women, the elderly, and those with underlying medical conditions such as respiratory diseases and asthma, among others, both in the short and long term. Exposure to this chronic hazardous dust increases the risk of respiratory illnesses, heart disease, stroke, and lung cancer.

But if you want to breathe in fresh air without worries, we have five tourist destinations in Thailand to recommend that are free from PM 2.5 dust:

  1. Ratchaprapa Dam (Guilin of Thailand), Surat Thani Province
  2. Koh Lipe, Satun Province
  3. Ban Kiriwong, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province
  4. Kung Krabaen Bay Royal Development Study Center, Chanthaburi Province
  5. Thale Noi, Phatthalung Province

These five tourist destinations are surrounded by natural beauty, including forest mountains and water sources. Moreover, it’s been found that the Air Quality Index (AQI) in these provinces is at a good level almost all year round. Be assured that visiting these places will be an unforgettable experience.
