Community-based tourism routes at Tha Ranae village in Trat

One-day trip at Tha Ranae village in Trat

For anyone who would like to see an amazing place or the miracle of nature, Tha Ranae village is on the list of places we recommend. This village is located in Nongkansong Subdistrict, Mueang District, Trat Province.

A must-visit spot is a mangrove forest, where people can see the roots of cannonball mangrove weaving through the marsh and floating beautifully, like a natural floor on the water. Moreover, the Ministry of Culture announced that cannonball mangrove trees are registered as a natural treasure of Thailand.

Travelers can visit this place by boat and they will pass three types of forest: cannonball mangrove, red mangrove, and nipa palm forest.

When they reach the cannonball mangrove forest, tourists can go bowling by using the tree’s fruit as a ball, and the bowling pins are made from roots of the mangrove apple. It is also known as the edible mangrove forest, because we can drink herbal tea from the ant plant, a tree used as an herb, which Thai people call the Roi Roo (100 holes) tree. The Roi Roo has a lot of benefits, such as reducing pains and aches, and maintaining good condition of the lymphatic system and bones. There are some research studies that show that the ant plant contains antioxidants and helps to reduce one’s blood sugar level. The villagers promote the herbal drink from Roi Roo by creating the slogan “Drink Roi Roo, live Roi years,” which means if you drink herbal tea from the ant plant, you can live for 100 years. This drink goes together very well with fried red mangrove leaves, which a study showed that they help to coat the stomach. Last but not least, please do not forget to try grilled fish balls, made from fish meat, put on a sugar cane stick and grilled.
