Community-based tourism routes at Ban Talay Noi Community in Rayong

One-day trip to Ban Talay Noi Community in Rayong

Ban Talay Noi is an old community located on a shore of the Prasae River in Rayong Province. Villagers here live their lives as fishermen. This place is really popular with visitors who like chilling on a raft and watching falcons. Ban Talay Noi won an award from the 11th Thailand Tourism Industry awards for its charismatic tourist attractions and delicious food made from local herbs (such as the rough cocklebur, or krachab in Thai).

Travelers can spend their precious hours visiting Ratchabanlang Temple, where they’ll learn the legend of King Taksin the Great and admire a Buddha image made of rattan. Moreover, travelers can also enjoy a workshop weaving hats from leaves of nipa palms, a skill that has passed through many generations. Visitors will be amazed by a model created by Ms. Ang, a local architect. Then, they can see how to make dried fish, join a local chef from Sarapee Restaurant to cook a dish from krachab, a local vegetable that looks like sunflower sprouts. Furthermore, they can buy and enjoy “three-water bananas”: bananas grown in areas of fresh water, sea water, and brackish water. Rafting and watching falcons in the evening is also an interesting activity.

A must-try dish if you come to this village is krachab spicy salad, since it is crisp and gives off a sweet and fresh flavor. Watching falcons in the evening is a highlight activity because the villagers will throw pork fat into the sea, and then the falcons swoop down for their food.

The main rafting period runs from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. or upon the travelers’ request. For more information, please contact Mr. Preecha Sanseurn (Head of Ban Talay Noi Community) on tel. 081 864 9086.
