Lifestyle tourism: A Stove Boat at Ban Tung Yee Peng in Krabi

Lifestyle tourism: A Stove Boat at Ban Tung Yee Peng in Krabi

Sightseeing through a mangrove forest on an ancient paddle boat, or Tao Than (stove) boat as the villagers call it, is a unique experience at Ban Tung Yee Peng in Sala Da Subdistrict, Khao Lanta in Krabi.

In the past, this type of boat was used to transport charcoal made from the mangrove trees, and this has been preserved by the villagers for the next generations to learn.

Ban Tung Yee Peng is famous as a green community and received a “Best Responsible Tourism” community award from Thailand Rural Tourism Awards in 2020.

The surroundings of the community include mangrove forests, laced with many natural canals connecting with the sea. It is also called the community of water, meaning it is no surprise that there are countless boats here. Many canals are important tourist attractions of the community.

Therefore, cruising is the perfect way to see the natural beauty that is unique to Ban Tung Yee Peng. There are many types of boats for you to choose; however, the stove boats are considered part of the identity of the community.

If you are interested in preserving the environment in the community, after traveling around it, you can grow a tree or a plot of sea grass, and if you’d like to buy a souvenir, you can visit local shops to buy their products, such as shrimp paste, T-shirts, bags, and other products under the local brand "Gham Daab Tung Yee Peng."
