Lifestyle Tourism: Kem Si Kao Hot Spring in Trang

A hot spring in the middle of a mangrove forest in Bo Hin Subdistrict, Si Kao District in Trang is one of the natural wonders of the area, perched on a hill surrounded by natural mud. The water is very clear, and the temperature is between 40-50 degrees Celsius.

If you love lifestyle and health tourism, this is perfect for you, as you can put your feet in and soak them in the hot spring, or do the mud spa, which is just as good – maybe even better. And you can’t smell sulphur from the hot spring at all.

You can visit the location at any time of the day. When the sea level is low in the morning and the afternoon, you can soak your feet or bathe in a salty hot spring, and when the sea level rises, you can soak your whole body. The villagers believe that there are minerals in the salty hot spring; therefore, soaking your feet and body in it daily can reduce your muscle pain, help with the blood flow, make the skin clear, and fix problems related to ligament and joints, as well as relieving stiff muscles.

It is safe to use the mud near the hot spring on your face and body. Researchers from Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya, Trang Campus, found that the mud doesn't contain any chemical substances, but instead contains eight healthy minerals and more.

Moreover, the housewives in the community use the black mud in making salted eggs because of those minerals found in the mud. The eggs are used in the household or sold in the shops. So, if you visit the village, you will get to learn how to make the salted eggs, which are the product of local wisdom, as well.
