Four astronomical observatory parks in four regions

      Astronomy is currently important for both education and technological development, as it aids in the understanding of natural phenomena such as day and night, seasons, and direction.

      At the National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (NARIT) one of the important tasks included in its establishment plan is establishing an international-standard astronomical infrastructure to support the country’s astronomy research, which is a major mission, as well as supporting the institute’s various forms of astronomy services to meet the needs of all target groups at all levels, providing comprehensive access to services and being able to use telecommunications for maximum benefit and cost-effectiveness.

      NARIT has established academic services infrastructure, which includes an observatory building with various types of telescopes for observing celestial objects, and a planetarium building with space for activities in the form of lectures. Among the various designs is an office building for NARIT, which has already begun providing services in four locations across the country:

  1. Princess Sirindhorn AstroPark, located at Don Kaeo Subdistrict, Mae Rim District, Chiang Mai Province, has opened for service;
  2. Regional Observatory for the Public, Nakhon Ratchasima, located in Suranaree University of Technology, Suranaree Subdistrict, Mueang District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province, opened in 2014;
  3. Regional Observatory for the Public, Chachoengsao, located in Wang Yen Subdistrict, Plaeng Yao District, Chachoengsao Province, opened in 2018;
  4. Regional Observatory for the Public, Songkhla, located at Khao Rup Chang Subdistrict, Muang District, Songkhla Province, opened in 2019.
