Understanding the importation of personal and household effects

Importation of personal effects and household items

      The importation of personal effects and household effects means carrying goods, appliances, or other assets with oneself or taking them out of the Kingdom in a specified amount or as deemed appropriate.

       “Personal effects” means personal items that the owners bring with them for their own use or in professions such as clothes, books, cars, firearms and ammunition, and supplies. However, alcoholic drinks, cigarettes, cigars, or tobacco, which are personal items that the passengers bring with them, must not be more than the prescribed quantity.

 - Tobacco must not exceed 200 cigarettes or 250 grams of cigars or tobacco, or several items combined with a total weight of 250 grams, but not more than 200 cigarettes;

 - 1 liter of alcoholic beverage.

      “Household effects” means other properties that are not personal effects that are brought with the passengers in or out of the country and are items that the importers normally use while abroad. The importers of household effects must have ownership of those items before relocating, such as televisions, refrigerators, air conditioners, jewelry, etc. Household effects that have been used as such must be brought with the owners because of their relocation and in an appropriate quantity to be entitled to exemption from duty.
