Researchers from National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (BIOTEC) under National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) are applying science and technology to improve Centella asiatica (gotu kola) cultivation through smart farming systems. The project focuses on increasing production quality, maintaining consistency in important bioactive compounds, and supporting year-round cultivation using advanced agricultural technologies.
The smart farming approach combines technologies such as controlled-environment agriculture, plant factory systems, and precision farming management to help farmers reduce production risks, improve resource efficiency, and achieve premium-quality herbal products. Researchers also selected high-potential Centella varieties that deliver strong yields and valuable active compounds for health and commercial applications.
This innovation aims to strengthen Thailand’s herbal industry by increasing competitiveness, creating higher-value agricultural products, and supporting sustainable farming practices. The initiative reflects how science, biotechnology, and smart agriculture can work together to enhance economic opportunities while promoting long-term agricultural development.
