Procedures for visiting foreign detainees

When foreigners enter Thailand illegally or for some illegal purposes, whether it is a foreigner who entered the country without permission or overstaying, the Immigration Office has the power to detain them and take the next step for repatriation. Any person wishes to visit the detainee when they are in custody may proceed as follows:

          Visits for detainees are allowed Monday-Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (noon), and the embassy visits are on Monday-Friday, 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.

The visitor requires documents, including identity certificate or passport/ application form. Prohibited items include cell phones, weapons, cameras, and bags, and allowed items are food, beverages, and daily personal items.

A visitor must submit the documents to the officer, then get a visiting card, leave any prohibited items, go through the weapons-explosives check door, and have a body search, and then the visitor will be permitted to visit the detainee in the detainee's room; the visitor must leave by 12:00 p.m., as scheduled.
