It’s started! Thailand's Food Bank Reduces Problem of Excess Food, Reduces Food Waste, and Increases Food Accesibility.

Thailand is facing a food waste crisis from agricultural and processed products, which negatively impacts the environment and the food security of the population. Reducing food loss at the source is a crucial approach to addressing this issue. Data shows that Thailand has as much as 4 million tons of surplus food annually, while 3.8 million people struggle to access food. Therefore, the country's first "Food Bank" has been launched to manage excess food for optimal benefit.

The launch of the prototype of Thailand’s Food Bank aims to raise awareness about excess food, food recovery, and to establish a process for redistributing excess food to reduce food waste and ensure food security for the country. This prototype is being piloted in the Ladprao community at Klong Song Kratiem School, Ladprao District, Bangkok, with cooperation from the government, private sectors, and the public.

Furthermore, this initiative will serve as a model for distributing excess food to the wider Thai society. It is a great opportunity for Thailand to begin "Thailand’s Food Bank", which is expected to increase food security for the population in the long term, benefiting the country and our world as a a whole.
