DPM Phiphat Directs Safety and Traffic Measures for Public Mourning

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, serving as Chair of the Committee on Security and Traffic Management for the Royal Funeral Ceremony of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother, convened a coordination meeting to finalize safety and traffic preparations for public attendance. The meeting was held at Sriburapha Auditorium, Thammasat University, ahead of the public opening of the Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall on November 9.

The Minister stated that all relevant agencies have been instructed to prepare comprehensive arrangements, including transport services and designated parking zones, to support the large number of people expected to attend. Authorities anticipate more than 10,000 people per day will travel to the Grand Palace. The Royal Thai Police will ensure security, and the Ministry of Public Health will be on hand to offer screening and support, especially for those requiring mental health assistance.

To ensure safe travel, the Department of Land Transport has been instructed to conduct strict inspections of public transport vehicles. Airlines and interprovincial bus operators have also been asked to maintain regular fare rates. For large group visits, Highway Police escorts and ambulance units will accompany convoys along designated routes, with emergency medical facilities on standby at key points.

A designated holding area near the Na Phra Lan Tunnel, close to the Sanam Luang MRT entrance, will accommodate 2,000–3,000 people per cycle to maintain orderly crowd flow before entry into the Grand Palace. Queue management will be carried out in stages to ensure safety and smooth movement.

The Minister expressed confidence that the preparations will proceed smoothly, noting that all agencies involved have experience and have rehearsed detailed coordination measures, ensuring the ceremony honors Her Majesty The Queen Mother with the highest dignity.
