Dr. Surachoke Tangwiwat, the newly appointed Secretary-General of Thailand’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA), has announced key policies for the 2025 fiscal year aimed at elevating consumer protection, streamlining product authorization processes to meet international standards, and establishing Thailand as a hub for health product economics. The 11 core policies focus on consumer protection, entrepreneur support, and organizational readiness for the future, as follows :
1. Promote International Authorization Standards (Good Review Practice)
Shorten the time for health product authorizations by at least 20%, ensuring reviews meet international standards.
2. Establish a Product Authorization Status Tracking System
Develop a system that accurately forecasts approval times for products, set to be fully operational by December 2024.
3. Integrate End-to-End Process Workflow
Link all procedural steps to improve efficiency and comprehensive oversight throughout the system.
4. Support Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) Prevention Policy
Facilitate the development of health products that reduce NCD risk, introducing these products into the market.
5. Create a Regulatory System that Supports High-Value Innovation
Encourage the creation of innovative, high-quality and high-value health products.
6. Raise Standards for Grassroots Economy Entrepreneurs
Support small-scale entrepreneurs in meeting FDA standards, enabling Thai health products to access international markets.
7. Encourage New Entrants into the Health Product Industry
Foster entry opportunities for new entrepreneurs in the health product market to expand business potential.
8. Drive Data-Centric Organizational Management
Advance organizational operations based on a systematic data foundation for accuracy and transparency.
9. Develop Quality Personnel
Enhance skills and expertise among personnel to support future organizational growth.
10. Generate New Research and Knowledge
Advance consumer protection efforts by developing knowledge and research relevant to FDA operations.
11. Plan for Sufficient Health Product Supply in Normal and Emergency Conditions
Ensure adequate health product supply for both regular times and emergency situations.
Through these 11 policies, the FDA aims to enhance consumer protection and establish Thailand as an international hub for the health products economy, focusing on product development, entrepreneur support, and the improvement of efficient, transparent workflows to meet global market demands.
