Salung Luang Klong Yai Festival, New Year of the City, Lampang Province in 2023, is held from 10 to 16 April 2023, in the Khuang Nakhon area, the clock tower intersection, and Wat Pong Sanuk in the Muang District, in an effort to keep alive local customs and ensure that Lampang Province retains its unique character as one of the north’s most charming destinations.
Throughout the event period, there will be different activities each day, consisting of the following:
- On 10 April, there is a ceremony to worship the Salung Luang event, big drums, New Year’s in Nakhon Lampang, and a performance of “Miraculous Kong Pu Chan Nakhon Lampang, Rumors of a Terrifying World”;
- On 11 April, there is the Salung Luang Goddess Contest for the year 2022;
- On 12 April, there are several events to welcome Phra Chao Kaew Don Tao to Lampang City. These include the opening ceremony of “Salung Luang, the big drum for the new year of Lampang City 2023,” the Salung Luang parade, the Namthip parade of 13 districts, the Buddha prospering ceremony magic, and the pouring of water on Phra Chao Kaew Don Tao;
- On 13 April, there will be a ceremony to make merit and offer food to monks, New Year’s festival in Nakhon Lampang, the Holy Chum Phra Procession, and the Pa Weni New Year procession;
- On 14-15 April, there is an activity to carry sand to the temple and parade the Sri Kham;
- On 16 April, the cultural tradition is to follow the Dhamma trail of Luang Pho Kasem Khemko, and there are activities throughout the event at Khuang Kaew Wiang Lakon.
