In the period before the outbreak of Covid-19, Thailand had up to 40 million foreign tourists per year, but the spread of Covid-19 severely affected the Thai tourism sector, causing the number of foreign tourists to decrease significantly. After the situation began to subside, the government came up with measures to stimulate tourism, especially measures that focus on building confidence in safety for tourists.
The Amazing Thailand Safety and Health Administration (SHA) is a partnership between the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), and the Ministry of Public Health (Department of Disease Control, Department of Health,and Department of Health Service Support). Government agencies and the private sector are pushing for better tourism in Thailand to create a positive, happy, and safe experience when it comes to public health. The goal is to create effective public health safety measures along with quality service standards. Issuing the SHA symbol represents the sanitary safety standards for establishments, divided into 10 types of activities:
The TAT is responsible for controlling the issuance and revocation of SHA seals of entrepreneurs. The tourists or service recipients can participate in giving suggestions for further improvement and development of the system through TAT.
