EEC is ready to welcome foreign investors

      The Department of Business Development, Ministry of Commerce, disclosed business data in the EEC, the Eastern Economic Corridor, in Chachoengsao, Chonburi, and Rayong provinces in the period of Jan-Sep 2022 and compared it to the same period of the year 2021.

     It was found that, in 2022, there were 6,294 entrepreneurs (newly established juristic persons) starting new businesses in the EEC, increasing by 1,213 from 5,081 entrepreneurs in 2021, accounting for atotal registered capital of  27,219.99 million baht, increasing from 14,837.44 million baht, which is an increase of 12,382.55 million baht in just one year.

     The top three newly established businesses were (a) real estate, (b) building construction, and (c) real estate agent and brokerage activities, who are paid by commission.

     These figures reflect the fact that areas for opening new businesses still exist. It probably comes from the fact that the government provides tax and non-tax incentive investment measures.

     In 2023, industries investing in the EEC-in which their know-how is transferred in joint projects with academic institutions or research centers in Thailand-are entitled to A1+ benefits, including corporate income tax exemption for another two years. Projects in Groups 1-4 will receive a 50% reduction of corporate income tax for three additional years, apart from other investment incentives.

In this regard, for investors or new entrepreneurs that are looking for investment areas, seven EEC promotional zones have been introduced, comprising the following:

1. EEC for high-speed rail (EECh) linking three airports;

2. EEC for digital (EECd);

3. EEC for the medical hub (EECmd);

4. EEC for innovation (EECi);

5. EEC for aviation (EECa);

6. EEC of genomics (EECg);

7. The Digital and High Technology Center, Ban Chang Rayong.

     There are 26 special economic zones for industries covering the provinces of Chachoengsao, Chonburi and Rayong, such as WHA Rayong 36 Industrial Estate, AMATA City Chonburi Industrial Estate, and TFD Industrial Estate 2 in Chachoengsao province.

     Special economic zones and industrial clusters comprise Ban Pho Future Automobile Industry and Bang Pakong Electronic Commerce. Investors interested in the special economic zones are encouraged to visit the website of the EEC to ensure their investment achieves their sustainable business goals.
