Sustainable urban development and smart cities move from policy to practice

     The Program Management Unit on Area-Based Development (PMU A) has proposed a Livable & Smart City strategy dataset for the development of livable and smart cities in line with the Thai context.

     The development process will focus on cooperation with partners at all levels who are involved in policy development and at university level in the local area, and private sector partners.

     To develop the cooperation in order to tangibly drive the livable city from policy in action, partners at all levels have reached joint cooperation to establish the "Smart City Alliance Thailand" to drive the city strategy, the livable center, and the smart city.

     PMU A has been assigned to support the academic process to drive the Livable & Smart City development research plan to enhance the economy and reduce inequality in Thailand. Moreover, PMU A has been asked to support the knowledge management tools to manage the city system, including scholars and experts, relevant organizations, and factors related to promoting urban and local development research, so that they can work on projects to achieve goals, support the development of a central area system to disseminate knowledge, and learn the research process on Livable & Smart City urban development.

     To improve the economy and to reduce inequality between academic institutions, government agencies, civil society, the community, the private sector, and the relevant partner mechanisms, they have cooperated and have driven the policy proposal related to research on Livable & Smart City urban development. This also helps drive agency-level policies at the level of department, ministry, and related partners, including supporting other related work or activities as deemed appropriate and agreed upon together.

      As for other partners under the Smart Cities Partnership, Thailand will play a role in supporting the drive to link urban development cooperation, livable hubs, and smart cities by supporting information in the area to improve the quality of life of the people, as well as other resources such as information, tools, equipment, and locations.

     The Livable & Smart City strategy dataset is based on research and innovation, which provide a solid foundation for the development of smart cities to be fully integrated across seven dimensions:

  1. Smart Energy Management Dimension;
  2. Smart Environment Management Dimension;
  3. Smart Mobility Management Dimension;
  4. Smart Economic Management Dimension;
  5. Smart People Management Dimension;
  6. Smart Living Management Dimension;
  7. Smart Governance Management Dimension.

     These will result in a good quality of life for the citizens of smart cities and a happy life, following the National Economic and Social Development Plan No. 13 (2023-2030).
