The High-Speed Rail (HSR) system is an intercity rail service that operates at a top speed of 250 kilometers per hour. Renowned for its punctuality and convenient travel procedures, it is a mega project in Thailand aimed at promoting economic development and supporting tourism.
The Ministry of Transport has plans to develop four lines in total, spreading routes to various regions: the North, Northeast, East, and South.
"Ayutthaya High-Speed Rail Station" is one of the stations on the high-speed rail line running through two routes: the Northern and the Northeastern lines. The construction plans were carefully designed, taking into comprehensive consideration the potential impacts, especially on the World Heritage Site of Ayutthaya Historical City, including archaeological sites and cultural heritage properties.
The boundaries of the Cultural Heritage Impact Assessment (HIA) evaluated the effects on three aspects of the World Heritage Sites: visual, physical, and socio-economic. In order to strike a balance between development and conservation of cultural heritage, the construction plans were devised specifically within the existing railway areas. This ensures no impact on the conservation area of the Ayutthaya World Heritage City or on the public zones.
Furthermore, the construction of the Ayutthaya High-Speed Rail Station is only 1.5 kilometers away from Ayutthaya Historical Park, taking into account the parallel objectives of development and conservation. This enhances the surrounding routes up to the Historical Park area, transforming it into a significant tourist and commercial zone of the community. It facilitates travel for both locals and tourists, promoting tourism and spreading prosperity. Moreover, it helps create jobs and generate income for the local community, leading to sustainable strength and growth.
