One of the key strategies in driving Thailand towards becoming a medical hub in the region is the development of medicines and health products. Therefore, the government has accelerated the promotion and support to achieve excellence in modern medicines, Thai herbal medicines, and health products. The goal is to provide quality and certified medicines and health products ready to serve both Thais and foreigners and to have sufficient potential for distribution around the world. The government’s support measures are discussed below.
1. Promote and increase the production of innovative medical devices in accordance with investment promotion measures of BOI and tax measures that facilitate entrepreneurs developing health services and promoting investment in medical services to support high technology. This includes improving the domestic production of innovative medical devices in keeping with the investment promotion measures of BOI and tax measures that facilitate entrepreneurs in the special economic zones, such as the EEC, through integration and collaboration with the Eastern Economic Corridor, BOI, and related authorities;
2. Promote and encourage research to create innovation and to support market demand, establish guidelines for promoting research to create innovation to support market demand in the medical device manufacturing industry, in collaboration with relevant authorities, including the Ministry of Industry, Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Commerce, and the Board of Investment (BOI). This is being done in order to support the Thailand 4.0 policy, driven by innovation (value-based economy) and the plan to become a medical hub.
