Creative Tourism: Natural Tie-Dyed Cloth at Khao Pitak Community in Chumphon
Chumphon, the gateway to the south, is another province that has many natural and cultural attractions, and one of those locations is Khao Pitak, located in Tong Krok Bay, Bang Nam Jued Subdistrict, Lang Suan District. There, the villagers gathered to build a homestay community as an attraction that would enable tourists to experience the lifestyle of the locals with various activities, such as learning the way of life of fishing community, biking around the island, cruising, diving, and making natural tie-dyed cloth, which is a popular local product.
To make the natural tie-dyed cloth, the villagers on Pitak Island developed the colors that they use from natural materials that can be found on the island. The highlight of the process is the sea mud, which is used to ferment the cloth. The quality of this mud is regulated by the water treatment department; it is authentic, pure, and natural. The clothes that are fermented in the sea mud are of good quality.
This activity helps promote the tourism community, as they get to be involved in the process of the tie-dyed cloth making, and when they have finished, they can take the clothes back as souvenirs, as well.
