Lifestyle Tourism: Fishermen at Khao Lon in Phuket 

     Ban Khao Lon, in Rawai Subdistrict, Mueang District in Phuket, is another option for those who travel to Phuket to escape the crowds on the other islands and would like to experience nature and a simple lifestyle.

     Khao Lon is surrounded by numerous islands that are suitable for fishing; therefore, most of the people are fishermen. The villagers saw this as an opportunity and started a community tourism program, so people could come and experience the authentic lifestyle of a Lon islander. 

     Traveling to the island can give you a different, special experience, similar to getting ”stranded” on an island, as you will get to stay at a homestay and learn the traditional and local ways of fishing, how to catch an octopus, how to raise lobsters in floating baskets, how to make local sweets, such as Thai coconut balls, and how to dye cloth with the natural materials around you. 

     And because Khao Lon isn't far away from Phuket, only a 15-minute boat ride from Chalong Bay, many tourists choose to visit the island to experience the unique lifestyle of the local people.
