Historical Tourism: History of the Chinese at Phuket Thai Hua Museum
Phuket, an immensely charming city – the pearl of the Andaman Sea – is well known for its world-class tourist attractions. These include not only the beauty of its beaches, the famous architectural style in the old town area, but also the historical destinations such as Phuket Thai Hua Museum, where everyone can experience and learn about the history of the Chinese people in Phuket.
Phuket Thai Hua Museum is located on Krabi Road in the old town area and was the first Chinese school in the province, which was established by Chinese Hokkien immigrants, the first group of Chinese ancestors who migrated to Phuket. It had two floors and was built in B.E. 2477 (1934 C.E.) in the Sino-Portuguese architectural style. It was a learning place where the youth, local people, and tourists could learn about the history of Phuket.
The museum was adapted to help the Hokkien people to be reminded of the history of the Chinese who migrated to Phuket and to enable tourists to learn about the lifestyle, behavior, and personalities of people in Phuket.
This place is also an education center where people can do research into the history related to Phuket.
The building of Phuket Thai Hua has gone through reconstruction and now is in a much better condition, suitable for a community's learning center.
The second floor of the museum is for learning the Chinese language, while the first floor is divided into 13 zones to display exhibitions, such as the history of the Chinese Hokkien people, the beliefs, the traditions, the arts, the culture, and the relationships between Chinese and Phuket people, and the Thai Hua Chinese School, which has been open for over 60 years.
