One Day Trip on the Community Tourism Route: Ban Sook Somboon in Nakhon Ratchasima

One Day Trip on the Community Tourism Route: Ban Sook Somboon in Nakhon Ratchasima

If you are looking for a tourist destination that is ecological and agricultural – a location where you can experience the atmosphere of a sustainable tourism community not far from Bangkok and one that is convenient to visit for a day – then Ban Sook Somboon Community in Nakhon Ratchasima is the perfect choice.

The community was once called Ban Huay Kamin because of its location next to the Huay Kamin River. The land is fertile, and people grow many types of crops, such as yams, corn, cucumber, chili, and shiitake mushrooms, as well as running homestays. Because of this, they renamed the community to Ban Sook Somboon (happy and fertile).

Because of the village’s strong points, it attracts many tourists each year. This place is suitable for having a meal while enjoying a touch of nature, relaxing, and taking part in the activities such as spinning and molding Look Ying, growing a “floating forest,” and planting a forest by using a catapult or slingshot to launch the seeds into the fields.

Here are some examples of the activities you can do from morning till evening:

     1) watching the sunrise at Huay Kamin Reservoir, which is a water resource of the community and also a lovely spot to relax,

     2) visiting Wang Nam Kiew Farm – an integrated tourist attraction where you can do many activities and learn things from the speakers,

     3) visiting a chemical-free vegetable garden and learning how to make salted eggs and fermented mushrooms,

     4) paying respect to the statue of the famous monk Luang Por Koon or visiting Wat Kamchanod 2, and

     5) watching the sunset at Thap Lan National Park in Thai Samakkee Subdistrict, Wang Nam Kiew District, which is another unmissable scenic viewpoint.

You can travel by your personal car from downtown Nakhon Ratchasima on Highway No. 304 (Pak Thong Chai – Wang Nam Kiew). When you reach Kilometer 59, turn left and drive for 6 kilometers, and you will arrive at Ban Sook Somboon, which is 80 km from downtown.
