Agreement on Cross-Border Traffic between Thailand and Cambodia 

     Currently, Thailand and Cambodia have a significant exchange of labour between the two countries. In addition, the tourism rate between the two countries is growing thanks to important historical sites that attract the tourism sector. Meanwhile, most foreign tourists tend to choose Thailand as the starting point for their travel in Southeast Asia before traveling to neighboring countries. The agreement on cross-border traffic between Thailand and its neighbors is, therefore, essential for both countries.

     The agreement between the government of the Kingdom of Thailand and the government of the Kingdom of Cambodia on cross-border traffic between the two countries was signed on 11 July 2015 (B.E. 2558).

The documents required to cross the border are as follows:

1. A passport;
2. A border pass;
3. A temporary border pass.

The personnel authorized to issue border passes are the provincial governors or the designated border district officials, as specified in the agreement.

The eligible individuals to apply for border passes are Thai and Cambodian nationals who are permanently residing in the border areas, as stated in the agreement.

Conditions for border crossings

1. Border passes are valid for 7 to 15 days;
2. Border passes for work-related purposes, seasonal work, or for round-trip travel are valid for up to 30 days per trip.

Passports are required for permanent border crossings throughout the country, and their validity is determined by each country.

Age/renewal of border passes: Border passes are valid for up to 2 years and can be renewed for up to 2 years per renewal.

Authorized border crossing areas consist of border provinces (except the Sa Kaeo border, where travel area is limited only to Prachinburi) in the following border areas:

Thai border provinces - Cambodian border provinces

1. Ubon Ratchathani - Preah Vihear;
2. Si Sa Ket - Udon Meanchey;
3. Surin - Udon Meanchey;
4. Sa Kaeo – Banteay Meanchey, Battambang;
5. Chanthaburi - Battambang, Pailin;
6. Trat - Koh Kong, Battambang, Pursat;
7. Buri Ram - Udon Meanchey.
