Foreigners may enter Thailand as a spouse or dependent child of a diplomat or foreign official and are part of the household. When the permit period of their visa has expired and they wish to extend their stay, they must apply for a visa extension under Section 15 of the Immigration Act 1979 (diplomat, official), with the following requirements:
- Foreigners must be heads of the organization's office or international agencies with operations protection laws in Thailand, households of members of diplomatic missions, consular officers or employees, persons assigned by foreign governments with the approval of the Thai government to perform duties or missions in the Kingdom of Thailand, persons performing duties or missions in the Kingdom under agreements made by the Thai government with foreign governments, heads of offices, employees, experts or other persons appointed or assigned to perform duties or missions in the Kingdom of Thailand under agreements made by the Thai government with organization or international agencies;
- Foreigners must hold a diplomatic passport or official/service/special passport or United Nations laissez-passer, or hold an ordinary passport with a non-immigrant visa for the performance of official duties, or are exempt from a visa under agreements made by that country with the Thai government;
- Foreigners must be certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or from government agencies at the department level or equivalent.
