Thailand Introduces New Legislation to Regulate Drug Production and Import to Prevent Misuse

Good news for drug users and businesses! The Cabinet has approved a draft ministerial regulation concerning the registration of Category 3 narcotics and Category 3 and 4 psychotropic substances. This legislation aims to ensure that the production and importation of drugs are of high quality and safety, preventing misuse of substances such as codeine cough syrups, pentobarbital epilepsy tablets, and diazepam anxiety tablets.

Applications for registration must be submitted electronically to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). If the application information is incomplete, corrections must be made within a specified time frame. The registration certificate will be valid for seven years, with an initial registration fee of 5,000 baht. Additional fees will apply for renewals and amendments to the registration.

In summary, the new ministerial regulation will help ensure that drug production and importation meet standards and are safe, thereby protecting drug users in Thailand.  It also aims to increase convenience and clarity for businesses in the registration process.
