Thailand Elevates "Rice Bran Oil" with Scientific Innovation, Stepping into the Global Market

Thailand, one of the world's largest rice producers, is capitalizing on a valuable byproduct: rice bran, which is important for extracting rice bran oil. With an annual production of rice bran oil of up to 800,000 tons, valued at over 10 billion baht, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI) is committed to enhancing the value of rice bran oil and expanding its market globally by utilizing technology and innovation to increase its value.

To ensure the most effective development of rice bran oil, the government has instructed the Department of Science Service to establish a reference laboratory for testing and verifying the quality of rice bran oil. This lab employs advanced scientific instruments to analyze and set detailed product standards. Additionally, research and development of new technologies, such as innovations in food, cosmetics, and extraction tools for rice bran oil, enable the production of higher-value products.

This advancement in the rice bran oil industry marks a transition from high-volume, low-yield production methods to a focus on high-yield, low-volume production. This development not only increases the value of rice bran oil but also strengthens the country's economy and enhances the quality of life for citizens by enabling rice bran oil products to effectively enter both domestic and global markets.
