Government Pushes Forward 20-Baht Flat Fare for Electric Trains - Quick Win for Transportation for the People

The government is advancing its policy to reduce the cost of living by offering a 20-baht flat fare for electric train services on several major routes. This is an urgent measure aimed to alleviate the travel expenses of the public, especially during times of high living costs.

The 20-baht flat fare for electric trains will begin with pilot implementation on the Purple Line (Khlong Bang Phai - Tao Poon) and the Red Line (Krung Thep Aphiwat - Rangsit and Krung Thep Aphiwat - Taling Chan) from October 16, 2023, onwards. Passengers can travel for a maximum fare of only 20 baht along the entire route, regardless of which stations they board or alight. Additionally, there will be extra benefits for seniors, children, students, and people with disabilities to further ease the financial burden for all groups.

However, during the initial phase, passengers will not be able to use the same fare card to travel across different lines, as the system is currently being upgraded for full integration. It is expected that by November 2023, the system will be capable of accommodating seamless travel across lines.

The 20-baht flat fare policy for electric trains is one of the key measures prioritized by the government to help reduce travel expenses for citizens, encourage greater use of public transportation, and alleviate urban traffic congestion. Additionally, it serves as a stimulus to the overall economy.

In the future, the government plans to expand the 20-baht flat fare for electric trains to more routes, ensuring that quality and reasonably priced public transport services are accessible to the people across the country.
