Developing Digital Health in Thailand: A Homegrown Platform to Combat Emerging Diseases and Prepare for Future Pandemics

Thailand is advancing into the digital health era with a platform aimed at combating pandemics. The COVID-19 crisis has been a catalyst for Thailand to focus more on digital health technologies, particularly in developing systems to track patients and high-risk contacts, which are critical tools for controlling the spread of diseases.

One of Thailand’s achievements is the development of the DDC-CARE platform, a collaboration between the Department of Disease Control and NECTEC (the National Electronics and Computer Technology Center). This system enables health officials to closely monitor patients and high-risk contacts, thereby allowing effective disease spread control.

Additionally, the COVID-19 outbreak has underscored the importance of having a centralized platform to collect and analyze public health data. Such a platform will help Thailand respond to emerging diseases more swiftly and effectively.

The advancement of digital health in Thailand marks a significant step towards building a robust and sustainable public health system, especially in an era where pandemics occur more frequently. Having a centralized platform that links health data of the population will empower Thailand to respond to public health emergencies more effectively.
