The most enduring charm of Thailand is that it is a land of rich nature, cultural diversity, and beautiful cultural traditions that have been passed down since ancient times, and these charms have become famous all over the world. If separated into the details of each region, there are five distinct regions that are well worth exploring.
- The North is a high area with many high mountains. The highlight is the highest point of Thailand at Doi Inthanon, Chiang Mai province. For those who want to experience nature and cool weather, this is a place not to miss. It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the north. Doi Inthanon also has a viewing point for a marvelous view of the sea of mist, along with nature study trails, many waterfalls, beautiful flowers, and cool weather all year round. The northern region also has a vibrant, historic Lanna culture, making it a destination for both Thai and foreign tourists, especially Chiang Mai, where millions of tourists visit every year.
- The central region has lowland areas and plains. Most of the people are engaged in agriculture. The Chao Phraya River is an important source of water. Interesting tourist attractions are on both side of the banks of the Chao Phraya, where there are old temples with historical importance and beautiful architecture and art, such as Bang Pa-In Palace, Bang Sai Arts and Crafts Center, in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province, or Koh Kret, in Nonthaburi province, and Wat Arun Ratchawanaram, in Bangkok. There is also a boat service to tour the Chao Phraya River and see the views from Bangkok to Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya every day.
- In the eastern region, the highlight is the fertility of the soil. There are areas of both mountains and seas. For those who love to eat fruit, don't miss durian, mangosteen and longkong in Chanthaburi, Rayong, Prachinburi and Trat provinces. There are also popular tourist attractions such as the islands known as Koh Samet, Koh Chang, Koh Mak, Koh Lan, and Koh Sichang, and the beach of Bangsaen. The area comprising Pattaya and Chonburi province is considered popular because it includes both the sea for the daytime and other attractions for the nightlife.
- The northeastern region is mostly a high-altitude plateau. Mountains are everywhere. It is the source of jasmine rice production, a popular variety of rice that is sold all over the world. The main river of this region is the Mekong River, which forms the border with Laos and Cambodia. Tourist attractions along the Mekong River include Chiang Khan, in Loei province; shopping at Tha Sadet Market, Nong Khai province; and the Indochina Market, Mukdahan province. Also, you won’t want to miss the beauty of the pool on the rocks at Sam Phan Bok, Ubon Ratchathani province.
